When I started this work, I intended to create a complete circle comprising four drawings depicting four continents. The idea was that they would be displayed together and create a ‘globe’ of sorts. I am still working on the other three, but interestingly, this component somehow stood alone, as a repository of ideas, which dominated my subconscious. Minoan culture, the spread of European ideas to the ‘New World’ the fortifications which are metaphorical nowadays, but still real and still keeping out ‘invaders’. The shadows of recent war and the extermination of millions, classical antiquity and the influence on our perceptions of beauty.
